Giovanni Fusetti is the Founder of Helikos International School of Theatre Creation in Florence, Italy.

He is the Pedagogical director and the core teacher in the professional training program where he teaches Movement Analysis, Improvisation, Theatre Creation and PAPAS (Personal Awareness Process in Altered States) at Helikos.

In his pedagogy, he integrates physical theatre with different practices of physical and emotional awareness, for the training of the actor/poet/creator, on the path reconnecting theatre to its origin: ecstasy.

He is passionate about midwifing clowns and the process of devising movement based theatre: he has coached hundreds of clowns into existence all throughout the world.

From Street Theatre to the Pedagogy of Initiation

Giovanni encountered pedagogy and social theatre while receiving his MA in Agriculture and Ecology at the University of Padova.  This encounter led to a pedagogic and artistic search that has been unfolding for over 25 years.

He trained at the École International de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq where he subsequently returned to follow the pedagogic training and the L.E.M. (Laboratoire d'Etude du Mouvement), after which he was invited by Jacques Lecoq to teach improvisation.  While in Paris, Giovanni also trained in Gestalt at the Ecole Parisienne de Gestalt (1992-1999).

In 1999, alongside Paola Coletto, he co-founded Kìklos Teatro in Padua, Italy, where he was the pedagogical director and core teacher of the Scuola Internazionale di Creazione Teatrale KIKLOS (2000-2004).

As a performer, after an intense early period of street theater and storytelling, Giovanni explored movement-based creation with various companies including Circo Crappo, Teatro Osvaldo, The Clod Ensemble (London), Tre Magi Teatro, Il Triangelo, and Larven Teatro. He has worked as movement coach and assistant director internationally, including for the Commedia dell'Arte company Pantakin da Venezia, and has collaborated with Pig Iron Theatre Company in Phildelphia (US) as trainer and devising consultant. He has directed and co-written clown shows with former students and alumni.

As a pedagogue, he runs workshops and lectures/presentations internationally. Giovanni has collaborated with theatre companies, theatre schools and universities, including: LISPA (London International School of Performing Arts), Dell'Arte School of Physical Theatre (Blue Lake, California), Accademia Teatrale Veneta (Venice), The University of London, Rosegarden Theatre House (Norway), Naropa University (Boulder, Colorado), Centre Generation Tao (Paris), Princeton University, University of Auckland, Auckland Unitec, Toi Wakhaari / New Zealand Drama School and the Boulder Circus Center (USA), where has has been teaching a summer intensive training on Red Nose clown, over the last 10 years.

His 25 years of pedagogical research include training in Theatre in Education, Conflict Resolution, Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, Gestalt and Process Work. Alongside his pedagogic work in training professional theatre artists, Giovanni Fusetti has led groups of personal development and peace-trainings (1995-2000). Subsequently he has developed an approach that integrates  Gestalt, Reichian Analysis and Clown, as a way towards healing and personal development (The Tao of Clown). In his decade-long collaboration with Pol Charoy and Imanou Risselard, he has contributed to the creation of Transanalysis.

Trained Permaculture Designer and amateur gardener,  he seeks to be fully alive while on this powerful, fragile and beautiful planet.
